Fremont Art Walk - Nov 1, 2013

Come see us at the Fremont Art Walk on Friday!

On Friday, November 1st–for one night only–we will be showing a small collection of fine art nudes at the fabulous Bellefleur lingerie boutique in the heart of Fremont.  The Fremont Art Walk is always a festive evening of wandering in and out of our neighborhood shops that host “pop-up” art shows.

John’s collection of photos is called, “Women at Work and at Play.” Here are a few of the images we’ll have available on Friday.

We’ll be there 6:00 – 9:00pm, so please come say “hi.” And, if you can’t make it to the show, here’s a link to a gallery of images for purchase.

Bellefleur lingerie boutique offers a wonderful selection of gorgeous lingerie, and the staff can expertly help with the perfect fit… or gift. Bellefleur is located at 3504 Fremont Place N (between Silence Heart Nest and Bliss), right in the center of the universe.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

This week in the studio: Sara Sparrow

Seattle Performance and Headshot Photography

Well, the studio has been so busy that we got behind on blogging, so this should rightfully be called Last Month in the Studio. Sara asked us to help with some new publicity photos. She has a new studio and teaching facility called The Aviary in Olympia, as well as continuing to do fantastic ensemble and solo performances around the Sound.

We met Sara years ago as a quirky, fun-loving waitress with a great hair style in a local Italian restaurant when she was truly new to the circus community. As we got to know her we talked about the Moisture Festival and SANCA. Soon, she was doing aerial work with the Aerialistas and developing her solo work (which she has since performed in the Moisture Festival). She was also performing some comical acro-balancing with fellow artist Graeme Quinn, which was our first opportunity to do studio photos with her. In the more recent years, she has collaborated with the innovative aerial groups Richochet and Levity, as well as performing with Teatro ZinZanni in Seattle. She is equally talented at both comic, physical pieces and beautifully performed aerial work. She is also an actor and singer. And a musician. Visit her website at

Then contact John or Kim to set up your next photo session. We would love to collaborate with you!

This week in the studio: Iman

The quietest characters speak the loudest

The Moisture Festival in Seattle brings together many great performers from around the world. One of my favorites has been Iman Lizarazu. Originally from the Basque region of France, Iman now lives in Santa Cruz, CA. I was lucky enough for both of us to have a few free minutes to spend together in the studio working on images for her web site.

Iman is a mime. A clown. A juggler. A dancer. An astrophysicist. An entrepreneur.  She has spent time on the Russian navy. She worked out with the Bolshoi Ballet (her father was the artistic director). She makes people smile. She makes people laugh. She is also a visual artist, creating mixed-media pieces. She hardly says a word (in her act, in person she is a great conversationalist with a fun accent).

I admire brevity of words, so I'll stop talking and show some photographs:

Cafe Nordo Goes Western

It is that time of year again. I got an email from Erin Brindley and Terry Podgorski about creating new photos for Café Nordo. These are always fun, but often challenging sessions. I almost never know quite what I'm getting into until I show up on set for these photo sessions. But, did I mention fun?

This time the concept handed to me was "spaghetti western," and we set a date. The location selected was a favorite, the Georgetown Ballroom. Many people know the ballroom for events, shows, and parties. Few may also know that Jerry has a great storehouse of odd and ends that we call props. Need bottles? Barrels? A roadster car? Some musical instruments? Animal skulls? Taxidermy? Who knows what else. An amazing archive.

But back to the photos...

K.D. Schill provided the great costuming for Nordo regulars Max Davis, Opal Peachy, Mark Siano, Ray Tagavilla, and Evan Mosher. Ryan Higgins is the new addition. Tickets go on sale April 2 and the show opens in May in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood.

Now its back to the Moisture Festival. That will keep me busy for another two weeks. Stop me to say Hi if you see me at a show.

SANCA's Up With A Twist

Yes, You Can Fly!

Seattle is home to one of the greatest little schools I’ve ever heard of. SANCA  is the School of Acobatics & New Circus Arts. Founded by Jo Montgomery and Chuck Johnson in 2003, SANCA offers classes that teach fun. Along with the fun you learn confidence, you learn performance, you grow in many ways. But the only pressure is to have fun. You can get a better understanding than I can describe from this video:

Each year they hold a fundraiser at the Teatro Zinzanni tent called Up With a Twist and I’m lucky enough to be the photographer for these events. They raised over $120,000 this year! These gifts and contributions will directly support SANCA’s programs for youth, including providing need-based scholarships to low-income youth, working with at-risk youth in their Circus Outreach Program, working for youth with special needs, and the  Youth Performance Program.

Check out SANCA for yourself and learn to fly like Kim did!

You can find photographs from various SANCA events and shows in my galleries.

Thanks for taking a look!

Musician's Association of Seattle

A Wall of Woodwinds!

The Musicians Association of Seattle recently partnered with us to provide headshot photo sessions for their members and also a day in the studio so that we could capture a collection of photos that they can use in their newsletter throughout the year. One request was that we photograph two ensembles: a Celtic trio and a woodwind duo. What incredibly interesting musicians! For the studio session they brought an eclectic collection of instruments including a Chinese stringed instruments and gorgeous historical wooden flutes. And then there was Quasimodo--a monster of a baritone sax that had been painted (long ago, by a previous owner) with shiny black automobile paint. We couldn’t believe its tone was so sultry!

We were initially told that there were two "clarinet players" coming over for photos. Imagine our surprise as they started unloading the collection seen below from their cars...

The next day we went to their office for the headshot sessions where we got to work with an eclectic mix of musicians.

Kim and I look forward to working with your and your organization soon. Call us at 206-547-5788 to set up your next photo session!

Louie Foxx

This week in the studio...

Louie Foxx stopped by to show us some of his amazing magic tricks. Louie performs his one man side-show all over the country and was recently on America’s Got Talent. His infectious laugh really drew us in and we had a great time capturing a few quick moments of his fast-paced magic tricks. Daisy, his lovely performing partner, even seemed to enjoy posing for a few photos!

In a quieter moment, we learned that Louie actually learned how to make his own leather bullwhips for his cowboy tricks from the same leathersmith that made bullwhips for Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones movies. When we were all done in the studio, the floor was covered with brightly colored confetti. We left it there to enjoy a really fun shoot just a little longer!  Check out Louie’s website here:

If you are an entertainer coming to town for the Moisture Festival in March and April and want to schedule a studio photo session for promotional images please contact us.

Celebrate You! With Miss K

Celebrate You!

From our initial email with Miss K, we could sense that she was going to be really fun to create photos with. The request: a sexy Christmas gift for her husband that could NOT be opened in front of her kids! She booked a day just for herself: hair, make-up, and then our photo session together. As we got into the session, she really relaxed and we captured some great images to show off her loveliness. Check out her sexy, well-toned back!

It was so fun when she came back to the studio to view her images – she was truly excited to see her own beauty. After Christmas she wrote us again to say her husband was thrilled with her very sexy photos! Yay!

There may still be some time to get your photos for Valentine's day. Or come in for any special day. Say you are doing it for someone special. For you!

Contact Kim at 206-547-5788 for more information about our Celebrate You! photography packages.
